Competition submission 2009

200,000sqm (2,152,000 sqft) GFA

An international competition over a period of 4 months in conjunction with Zaha Hadid Architects for a new mixed use experience that challenged the concept of luxury and offered a development containing all aspects of work, learn, stay and experience in the one complex. The brief included a 5 star hotel, office accommodation, high-end retail, university classrooms and lecture theatres, specialist surgery amenity, secure storage, auction house, parks, spa and beauty salons.

The design was to sit comfortably with the existing parklands adjacent to the airport and consisted of three canyons that eroded and opened up to allow internal courtyards and entry points on multiple levels.

I led the interiors team working closely with ZHA and Arup to develop the architectural geometry to suit the complex and challenging brief. The competition was won by Japanese architect Riken Yamomoto and is under construction
