After the GFC the Qatar Government agreed to relocate Qatar Petroleum to a new campus in the expanding Financial District outside the old town. For a period of two years I was the Design Director responsible for the briefing, design and documentation of the nine office towers and specialist areas in the podium for the new headquarters. The base building was designed by KEO International and consisted of a series of concave shaped towers in a nautilus configuration starting at 80 metres high and increasing in height to the highest tower at 230 metres.
After setting up the Doha project office I was spending a month per trip working with the Dubai studio to carefully develop the base building details, interiors and amenity to suit the QP requirements which included data centres, medical suites, auditorium, cafes, prayer rooms, remote operations control floors and 240 administration office floors. The executive levels are luxurious and well-appointed with suitable amenities to entertain distinguished guests and Royalty.
We worked closely with Aecom and Astad Project Management to deliver the project documentation for US$3.4B fitout, however the interiors portion of the project has stalled.
