HOUSE N

Westbourne Park Road, Nottinghill, London

Design Director while at TILT Creative UK

150 sqm (1,600 sqft)

Completed 2004

A transformation of a traditional dark and damp ground floor flat in a converted late Victorian terrace house in leafy Nottinghill into a connected open apartment with outdoor amenity. As owner/builder/designer and labourer, trades were employed by packages and day labour as required to complete the project. Complete demolition of every element in the apartment and reinstatement of a new polished concrete slab with hydronic underfloor heating, relocated wet areas, small extension with openable doors to the landscaped garden. The design was heavily influenced by my employer, David Chipperfield, as I explored minimalist materials and tight detailing whilst attempting to maximise daylight within the narrow 5.3 metre wide site.
