House C

North London Terrace House

Calabria Road, Highbury London

Architect, Designer, Owner & Builder while at TILT Design UK

160 sqm site

Completed 2009

The 1890's bay fronted mid-terrace house received a complete renovation and extension over a 15 month period. The extent of the works included creation of a basement utility and storage room, new loft with bedroom and ensuite and new rear extension which includes the kitchen, dining and mezzanine study.

The brief was to create a connected modern family residence with an inside/out approach from a standard 3 level Victorian terrace.

The insertion of a glazed 'light box' to the rear of the property visually separates the old from the new while driving daylight deep into the long terrace floor plan.

The interior decoration respects the heritage qualities and pays homage to the Victorian era while the contemporary details sharpen and bring clarity to the overall space. Materials used were Basalt stone tops, Carrara marble, polyester lacquer, silk wallpaper, walnut flooring and deep wool carpets to bring warmth to the home.
